Help Please!!! Stuck in Developer Mode

Okay, so I found your site here, and thought I had struck gold.  Exactly what I was looking for!  But I quickly got in a bind.  I installed the Manager and connected to the LP2.  In looking through the menu I found "Enable Developer Options" or something like that.  Sure, why not, I do that on all my phones. Then I rebooted, as it suggested, and....  You know the rest.  I've read enough of the forum now to realize that I'm stuck in Developer Mode.  Unfortunately, none of the guidance for getting back out is helping.  I've tried using FTP to get in, with no luck.  The first computer wouldn't even show the network adapter (Win7).  Finally tried a second computer (Win10), and I got the adapter to show.  I changed the IP to 192.168.2.56 to fit in nicely between my other IP addresses on my network (.1 is used).  No luck.  Two different FTP clients including the recommended FileZilla return "Connection Refused by Server".  So then I thought I'd go ahead and follow the directions exactly, and changed it to 192.168.0.1, but that does the same thing.

There was some recommendation to enter a command in the shell, but no advice on how exactly to get a shell prompt in this situation.

I also read that if you hold Down & Home during power-on it will do a factory reset or something.  Nope.  That does nothing but boot normally.

So what am I missing folks? My kid can still play with it just fine, but it looks like for now my hacking options are toast, and I can't even connect to the regular LP software anymore either...  Any advice would be appreciated (detailed advice greatly appreciated!).

You will have to keep trying to get FTP by following the tutorial, or you can get shell access and remove it that way. Shell access will require some additional hardware, taking apart the device and soldering.

Is there any advice you can give me regarding the selection of the IP? Is 0.1 arbitrary, or is there a specific reason it needs to be so. I feel like if I understood that better it might point me in the right direction. 0.1 doesn't work, but then again all my other adapters are in the 2.x range, so maybe some conflict is created because of that?

The LeapPad should have an IP of 192.168.0.111 unless that got changed. So in order to connect to it, you must be on the same subnet as it or you won't be able to reach that IP. This is why you must set the IP of the adapter to 192.168.0.X which in my tutorial is just 1, but really any number should work within the address range of course.

Mine always seemed to work and my other adapters for my internet were on 13.x, but as long as the leappad adapter was on 0.x so it was on the same subnet as the leappad, it should work.

You can try the repair mode, but not sure if that resets the flag or not.

Leap Pad 2:
Power on the device while holding home, vol down and right on the directional pad. This will boot up to a repair mode where you can then connect it to a computer and attempt to restore the firmware

Okay, problem solved. Turns out that I was not following the tutorial precisely. I was trying to connect to the adapter instead of the LeapPad. I didn't notice the IP of .111, and in reading it was assuming it was still referring to the .1 discussed above regarding the new adapter IP. Deleted the developer file and I'm back in.  Thanks for the advice. Going to write myself a note not to ever select the developer mode option in the menu!

I would advise you to install the dev mode toggle APP on the leappad itself.

Glad you got it sorted but can i ask, what would you gain from changing the IP address of the Leappad?

Good idea Kris, and yeah, off to games and movie conversion I changed the IP of the adapter per the tutorial. Unfortunately, I then didn't realize that the FTP client needed to connect with the Pad, not the adapter. Oops.

I wrote a toggle dev app specifically for that reason so you have a quick and easy way to revert back if needed instead of connecting through FTP. Problem is, most people mess around in the app and toggle it before realizing the need for the app. ha ha. Glad you got it sorted.

Under WinXP i've found the leappad manager is completely unable to touch "/flags/dev" i've tried it on several occasions and when i then reboot the leappad it's still not toggled, so i rely upon the toggle app to get me to and fro, i did try merging it with sneak peeks to make a hideable dev mode switch but it wasn't as straight forward as file substitution as it quickly produced a ton of doom files(love it) and decided to factory reset.

If you need any recommendations for games, I've played most of them through or as far as possible
and if you are going to be creating your own custom flash games you might want to try my Game File Generator Game Genie it makes finding good SWF files the hardest part of it. 
You may also benefit from the MP3 Player from sisko59 (or later amendment made by yours truly.)
