Hi! First off this is so freaking cool what y'all have going on here!

So I'm gifting my kid a handme down leappad 2 - it had a few profiles and it's in french. I wanted to delete the profiles so I downloaded the leap connect software and connected it. It did some updates but now when it reboots it asks me to disconnect and create a profile before reconnecting. The thing is I just get the "connect" with the exclamation mark. Any ideas? Could I use Leap Manager to add a profile? Did I brick the thing?

Thanks!

 screenshot.png (Size: 22.5 KB / Downloads: 171)

How to use:
>Install from LPGameGenieSetup.exe (If you install as Administrator, your desktop shortcut will have the administrator flag.)

> Run Leappad Game Genie
!Must be run as Administrator!
> Change the ProductID and hit Set
> Edit the Meta info (Name, etc.) and add your flash game and images.
> Everything you need is in the File menu (the refresh button doesn't count)
> I've locked each step of the way so there shouldn't be any half made packages, just follow the steps.
> your Game files are now ready to Package as a .tar and install!

The Genie will not generate ICONS for your games, you'll still need to provide the Base_DA images.

The Mp3 Playlist Maker generates an empty \covers\ folder in the game folder, place 11 image files 1.jpg - 10.jpg and playlist.jpg inside
and you will have working artwork.

Bugs:
Base_DA = 83*88 causing the left edge of Base_DA visible on the dashboard icons
XP mkdir error, mkdir sometimes fails when making new game folder, sorry for wasting your time, run the generate code again and it should just work.
This shouldn't happen if the program is Run as Administrator

Linux: (.7z)
Should run fine under Wine (Needs comdlg32.ocx)

I think the subject has been discussed many times but the subjects are very old, the photos are also no longer available, and I cannot find any on the net.
I try to access my leappad 2 by the shell, to be able to export all its contents (maybe there is another solution but I did not find them).
So there you have it, I have a usb to ttl cable with the 4 pins that come out (black, gray, red, green), but I cannot find a soldering or connection plan (on the leappad 2, not on the didj ).
Do I have to weld them on the cartridge or directly in the console and where exactly.

Thanks to tremendous work by Forrest Martin it is possible now to turn LeapPad2 (and LeapsterGS) into a retro console. This is not a proof of concept, but quite useable console that could be used for everyday gaming (well, not every day - my kids have homework to do and I am supposed to work as well). Thanks to Forrest's efforts Retroarch works with the default interface, so it is quite functional. So far we have tested games for NES, SNES, Genesis, 8-bit Atari, GameBoy, GameBoy Color and GameBoy Advanced. Most games for older platforms work quite well, some games for more resource-intensive (SNES and GBA) devices are somewhat slow, but often still playable.

Of course, due to very limited number of buttons on LeapPad2 not all platforms and games are equally playable. Leapster GS is a better choice in this respect.

I have tried out an update with my newly compiled images on my new LeapsterGS... It did go so well, as the unit would not restart. I was not that worried as I believed I can still do the recovery... The problem is that the unit shows the connection screen, but then turns off after a few seconds. LFConnect tries to do tune-up, but it cannot succeed as the unit goes off. I have a serial access, but it just shows info on the startup, I cannot even type anything in. It does not look good

Hello everyone,

Apologies for repeating similar questions from OpenLF, if you frequent that also...

I have been looking at various tutorials and descriptions concerning Leapfrog devices (I am interested in LeapsterGS and LeapPad2) and I must say I am somewhat confused. For example, this one:

https://spiffyhacks.harmonypogo.com/thread-814.html

shows preparing the system for the devices in buildroot from scratch. If that is so, what exactly do we need the Leapfrog supplied source files for and how do we use them?

Another issue I cannot figure out yet is how do you put the compiled system on the device? And how risky it is, i.e. if I mess up the compilation process (which is VERY likely), will I be able to bring back the device to life?

Okay, so I found your site here, and thought I had struck gold. Exactly what I was looking for! But I quickly got in a bind. I installed the Manager and connected to the LP2. In looking through the menu I found "Enable Developer Options" or something like that. Sure, why not, I do that on all my phones. Then I rebooted, as it suggested, and.... You know the rest. I've read enough of the forum now to realize that I'm stuck in Developer Mode. Unfortunately, none of the guidance for getting back out is helping. I've tried using FTP to get in, with no luck. The first computer wouldn't even show the network adapter (Win7). Finally tried a second computer (Win10), and I got the adapter to show. I changed the IP to 192.168.2.56 to fit in nicely between my other IP addresses on my network (.1 is used). No luck. Two different FTP clients including the recommended FileZilla return "Connection Refused by Server". So then I thought I'd go ahead and follow the directions exactly, and changed it to 192.168.0.1, but that does the same thing.

There was some recommendation to enter a command in the shell, but no advice on how exactly to get a shell prompt in this situation.

I also read that if you hold Down & Home during power-on it will do a factory reset or something. Nope. That does nothing but boot normally.

So what am I missing folks? My kid can still play with it just fine, but it looks like for now my hacking options are toast, and I can't even connect to the regular LP software anymore either... Any advice would be appreciated (detailed advice greatly appreciated!).

Just as an idea I threw together this FlashPaper PDF made from the FAQ here at spiffyhacks. (08/11/2017)

I still think this is the best document viewer we could hope for on the leappad.

PRO's

Scrollable (D-Pad Up/Down)

Zoomable (D-Pad Left/Right)

Can import any "printable" document

CON's

Documents must be pre-generated into an SWF

Each document is its own loader (not great for a tile based desktop if you have many games/PDFs installed)

Dynamic Elements do not work E.G: Spoiler boxes, etc.. (Although the content would be visible if the spoiler was expanded before the document is sent to print.)

For anyone interested in making their own flashpapers;

For anyone interested in making their own flashpapers;

Required Downloads:

A PDF file you wish to convert (Or any printable document, Example PDF included with Flashpaper.)

1.) Download, install and Run Macromedia Flash Paper2, Use the code included to register the full version and Close it.
2.) Open your Printable Document or PDF file and once its finished loading all elements click, File...> Print...> Macromedia FlashPaper,

Having an odd problem, and support isn't helping my frustration. Basically it looks like videos and pictures taken by my kids can no longer be transferred to a PC if they have already been transferred in the past. Looks like the files are flagged somehow. Now if I take a new pic it immediately shows up in the "Creativity Gallery". However all of the existing pics do not, and I can't get them onto the PC anymore. Is there any way of doing this via FTP? I have LeapPad Manager working and the device is in Dev Mode. I am connected successfully via FileZilla. Thanks so much!

I've got a LeapPad with an unresponsive touchscreen. Well, it does respond, but not always accurately and seems to interpret finger touches better than those from a stylus. I ran the MFG Tests and it consistently fails the RMS test despite calibrating it beforehand.
Is there anything I can do to fix it or is it purely a hardware fault? I haven't tried cleaning it thoroughly yet but I'm guessing that's not the cause!!
Thanks for any advice.

If anyone is more tech saavy at cross-compiling and wants to have a go at helping me get some emulators running on the LeapPad 2, I am happy to send a tablet with the emulators for helping out. My goal is to create a boot app that lets the user choose which emulator to run. Then maybe with AdvanceMENU have it load up a list of roms for that emulator.

I have gotten FCEU to compile and run, just without controls or sound. I can't seem to get the latest FCEUX to compile without errors. I have not looked into Snes, Sega or Atari emulators yet.

si je ne le fait pas assez vite, elle reste bloqué.
si j'arrive a le sélectionner, je ne peut plus rien faire d'autre a part avec les boutons.

Is there a method to get these flash games to work (or just a method to this trial and error madness)

this is what I am doing

1. download a swf file (less than 1MB seems to work, as I can't get angry birds to work. its 2mb)
2. untar the GoldMiner tar file
3. replace the swf file and rename it loader.swf
4. then re-tar it
5. use manager to 'load' it back to the device.

my question is - why doesn't the angrybirds.swf from the inno forum work?
how can I load multiple games?
how to switch the game from landscape to portrait? would be good for tetris.

thanks in advance.

hi all,

I have bought one leappad2 with a couple of games on it, then I thought I would like more, but rather than buy a game for £20, I bought a new leappad off ebay for £30 which had 4 games on it, and 1 external cartridge.
Now I went to their website and they say you can transfer apps between toys as they're all 'open source' and licensed as such.
Now come to do that, I put in the first leappad and it is fine, the second one, and that's fine too, but try to move games between pads and you hit a wall.
They say the first ones were registered under a certain parent account, and the second under a diff account and I have a third account.

So legally, the owners who sold me the first pad are fine, nothing stops them doing so.
The second owners too are fine, nothing stops them selling.
I am fine as well, nothing that says I can't buy.

But I can't use the games! .. so is there a way I can copy over the games from one device to another?

thanks all
