I have got my hands on a LeapPad Ultimate. Tried to do the usual routine with DFTP>surgeon>flash, but I cannot get surgeon to work.

I see that elinux mentions an alternate flashing procedure (using fuse updater) and googling shows that some of you were using that for flashing LeapTV. As Ultimate seems to have a similar architecture to LeapTV (the main chip is the same), could someone share the procedure for flashing firmware with fuse?

Unfortunately, the touch screen and the cart slot are not working well anymore (don't ask), so this might limit my options. Still I have a serial connection, if that is needed.

So, I have 3 of these now. Funny story, but that's for later. It also led me here, which is awesome! I purchased one of these about a week ago, plugged it in, hooked it up. After it powered up (seemed normal because I've never used one before) it had the message "Use Controller FPO" and appeared to already have user names. Called Leap, they asked me if it had any errors, and I told them that it seemed fine, I just can't sync the controller and the screen says "Use controller FPO". They informed me that I was following the proper procedure, and that the unit needed to be replaced. He seemed to know what the problem was right after I read it to him. Unknowingly, my wife also called toys"r"us after I called Leap, and that's why we now have 3. After the new unit came, the start-up is completely different, and the controllers sync now. Anyone else ever seen this? I've looked all over google and can't find any information. I'll get some pics and a video of the start up to post. I'm also curious if the hardware may be different. Probably gonna open it up and compare to the other unit or the pics I found in this forum. Board photos;

Just bought this for my kid. I see that somebody is working on a home brew launcher that allows the backing up of games. (Very interested in that!). My wife and I bought about 5 or 6 games to go with it. Since our child is a little over 3 years old, having all the games in 1 spot (like Wii-flow) will be very nice! It's also too funny that inside the cartridges are just tiny micro SD cards.

Do firmware updates prevent all the cool home brew stuff from working or has Leapfrog abandoned this product? I think it came out about a year and a half ago so I don't know if any updates will kill the home brew app.

(de)bricking NOR flash on a dead LeapTV

While attempting to get a more accessible u-boot setup, I entered a 'saveenv' command and reset the LeapTV. The system failed to boot after this.

Apparently U-Boot is misconfigured as it is in the LeapTV, as it saves its environment in NOR flash at 0x4000. There is binary code at that location, which prevents bootup when overwritten.

I used flashrom and a Raspberry Pi to reflash the NOR device by connecting to the test points surrounding U700 and powering the board up to ensure the IC has power.

Having a copy of /dev/mtd0 as a backup saved my day, and being able to read the NOR flash before writing it helped a lot as well. /dev/mtd0 only returns 504k, while the other 8k wasnt backed up by myself. Some binary slicing was done with my backup and the additional 8k of data, and rewritten to the NOR flash afterward. The LeapTV is alive again!

building linux kernel and modules

So I wanted to rebuild linux kernel for leaptv to enable some extra kernel modules like
usb HID - for usb keyboards, mouse and gamepads
usb storage - flash sticks, card readers, hard disks, dvd roms
framebuffer console - to have shell console on screen with keyboard or just to see kernel output garbage on screen ;-)

the kernel source is inside the source code drop https://mega.nz/#%21pNoxUSjI%21SyAS6O_Um...ebFIv6lit4 as archive linux-3.4.5+svn-r1382-patched.tar.gz

The device has 3.4.24 version but luckily the archive name is misleading and it really contains this version. The device code name appears to be glasgow so I built it like this

Code:

cp arch/arm/configs/nxp4330_glasgow_defconfig .config
make ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=/mnt/resource/leaptv/buildroot-2015.11.1/output/host/usr/bin/arm-linux-

So far so good the result builds fine.
Then I enabled usb hid, framebuffer console and usb storage via menuconfig

Code:

make ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=/mnt/resource/leaptv/buildroot-2015.11.1/output/host/usr/bin/arm-linux- menuconfig

bu so far I have mixed results. The framebuffer modules build fine and can be 'insmod'-ed correctly but usb storage and hid are missing other modules which current kernel source does not build for me.

For usb storage I need scsi support, so even if I enable both as a modules it only builds scsi cdrom.ko module for me

 scsi.JPG (Size: 95.74 KB / Downloads: 1182)
No scsi and scsi disk kernel modules get build. And when also enabling usb storage I see error when building it

And similar for usb keyboard mouse, it does not build generic HID support. This time at least modules build fine but usbhid.ko cannot be inserted because it misses symbols from generic hid modules (hid.ko, hid_generic.ko) which do _not_ get built even if enabled in config as modules.
I guess it can be related to usb gadget storage modules being enabled and conflicting with the host mode drivers in some way but this should work in general. Maybe leapfrog/nxp engineers broke something in the kernel dependencies when adding their drivers.

Hi guys, bought a LeapTV for my kid that's turning 4 tomorrow and I know he's going to be VERY excited about this thing. With that said I'm concerned about losing cartridges and I'd like to rip the images/roms/etc off the carts we just bought to the internal storage. Is there a simple way to do this with a shell command or the like?

I also see that they have digital downloads from their catalog, which we might do going forward, so I have to think there's a pretty straightforward way to store a game in there. Thanks!

Looks like the device has MALI 3d chip and games are written in Qt 4 and use accelerated 3d via QT.
I started with enabling Qt and mesa3d in buildroot and will try to build some Qt based example (preferably with 3d) and test it on the device but if anyone already tried and has some results then don't hesitate to reply.

If anyone wants to try this, you can download a copy from here:
http://www24.zippyshare.com/v/lKT231d6/file.html

You will also need to install my patched SDL libs here:
http://www64.zippyshare.com/v/zrBKgiNJ/file.html

You will need to activate FTP and Telnet. See Josh's tutorial here:
http://spiffyhacks.harmonypogo.com/thread-616.html

copy the libs to /lib folder and copy the THDS-0x00310035-000000 into /LF/Bulk/ProgramFiles.
(you may want to backup your original pointer training game first)

Alternatively install it to THDS-0x00310023-000000 which shows as the app store preview thing on my LFTV.

You will have to make sure that advmame's permissions are set to 755 (so it can execute). to do this, telnet into the box go to where advmame is, and type
chmod 755 advmame
or if you are using filezilla, right click on the advmame file, and select "File permissions" and type 755 in the box, press OK.

Note this will overwrite pointer training: THDS-0x00310035-000000 so back it up first if you want to keep it.

There are a few other files that need to be copied into the correct directories. I've set up the files in the zip into the correct structure.
So files in the zip in usr/share get copied to /usr/share on your leaptv.
files in etc get copied to /etc

These need to be installed in /lib or /usr/lib should work also.
On my system to save space in the root directory (as there's not much free), I created a folder called /LF/Bulk/lib and just created symlinks to them in the /lib folder.
Just ignore the above line unless you know what you are doing!

Happy New Year Everyone!

I feel like this is at a point I can release and people test it.
PondLewder is a Homebrew/Backup Loader.

# INSTALL #
First follow the tutorial in the LeapTV section to get FTP access (Needs to be updated but should still work)
Copy both "LF" and "PondLewder" folders to the root directory of your LeapTV using your favourite FTP manager.

Assuming you haven't run any homebrew on your console before you will need to copy
ALL the libs from "libs (IF YOU NEED THEM)" to "/usr/lib"

* This will overwrite the "Pointer Training Games" *

# HOW TO USE #
After you have "installed" PondLewder restart your system.
Once your system has restarted you should see the "PondLewder" icon on the menu.
Simply run it like you would any other game.

Once PondLewder has loaded and scanned the entire system you will be presented with a basic menu showing all applications installed on your LeapTV.

Currently hidden system apps are shown, in future released these will be hidden with the ability to show or hide them.

Find the homebrew or game you wish to load and press A on it.

PondLewder will exit back to the main menu and where your game cart is normally shown, the Homebrew/Game will be shown there.

Simply launch it like you normally would and enjoy!

Any issue you have, I would love to hear your feedback.
