[Tutorial] - FTP to LeapPad

I tried this ftp access tutorial on the Leapster GS explorer and I got into developer mode but when I try to ftp it gives me the "connection refused". However, if I ssh or sftp to it I get a prompt! The only issue is that root requires a password to login.   I can use the system normally except neither LeapPad Connect nor LeapPad Manager can access the device.  Does anyone know the login info for either of these prompts or how to "reflash" the system back to the non-dev state? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
