So I'm not usually one to give up easily at all, but I attempted to FTP into the Platinum via Developer Mode, and failed miserably. It successfully put the device in Developer Mode, however I was never able to FTP into it to even put it back into Play mode and out of Developer Mode. Windows recognized the LAN adapter and all that, but I couldn't use Filezilla to get into it... It kept rejecting the connection. Maybe the Platinums use a different protocol or block FTP access? I know for sure it was the right IP, because my network scanner picked it up.
At any rate, I just repaired it by hitting the Right D-pad button and Home and powering on, then connecting to LeapFrog Connect to repair so we could play it and connect it to LeapFrog Connect like normal again. I've spent hours upon hours on this, so I'm just going to continue to rely on the Kindle for movies for my kiddo unfortunately. I was really hoping to get this thing to work.
