lola: try soldering them again and maybe swap the RX and TX. If the system is broken too much, it may not be repairable. The device does have to load up enough to load the shell for you to connect to.
abracam: Did you flash the backup? Are you using a high quality SD card? If it was bricked, then you might not be using a very good SD card and if that is the case, there is a chance the backup was corrupted as well. The app destroyer command basically kills the fastboot so it reads from the firmware fully.
